Project Details:
The project aimed to develop a smart specialization and regional innovation strategy for the region encompassing Bursa, Eskişehir, and Bilecik provinces. The project aimed to identify a strategic roadmap to improve the region's research and development capabilities, along with the entrepreneurial self-discovery process with also the benefit of securing the region's membership in the European Smart Specialization Platform.
The project involved the creation of a regional innovation and smart specialization strategy document that envisions the region's development through collaboration among the public sector, universities, industry, and civil society. This document consists of assessing the existing productive capabilities and entrepreneurial potential in the region consisting of Bursa, Eskişehir, and Bilecik provinces, and identify areas of activity that would enhance the region's added value, differentiate it from neighboring or competing regions, and focus on key activities in which the region is competitive and/or has the potential to be strong.
PAL Team made various site visits that included in-depth interviews with innovative firms and regional innovation ecosystem partners. Rigorous data analyses were also carried out on the innovation potential of the region. A deliberative polling workshop, designed by PAL, involving 200 local companies was conducted and an electronic survey of companies was implemented to collect data from companies. A strategic framework was developed through the synthesis of the findings, leading to the creation of a final report thanks to which the region became a member of the European Smart Specialization Platform.
